Kelly Roofing is proud to announce we have become an approved contractor for My Safe FL Home. The program is a great way to help Floridians strengthen homes against hurricanes and will help homeowners save money! This approval, through The Department of Financial Services, means we are able to strengthen your roof against wind damage once you’ve received the grant from the state. Here are all the details you need to know to get started!
Kelly Roofing Is An Approved Contractor For My Safe Florida Home
Kelly Roofing is authorized as an “Approved Contractor” and can help you keep your home safe. The My Safe Florida Home program allows homeowners in the state to make recommended home improvements based on the wind inspection report provided by the Department’s contracted inspectors.
What is My Safe Florida Home?
The Florida Legislature created the My Safe Florida Home Program to help single-family homeowners take steps to make their homes safer and more resistant to hurricane damage. It also allows homeowners to save money on their policy premiums by taking preventative measures against hurricanes.
This program is designed to help homeowners with home-strengthening projects. If a roof is not hurricane-rated or windows and doors aren’t protected, you might qualify for My Safe Florida Home. The best way to know is by having a wind mitigation inspector inspect your home. This program aims to strengthen your home against hurricanes and high winds, but it’s also designed to help you save on homeowner’s insurance. The best part is that the wind mitigation inspection is free!
What are the Requirements for a My Safe Florida Home?
There are requirements that homeowners must meet. An owner of a site-built, single-family, residential property may apply for and receive an inspection without any further obligation to apply for a grant.
Authorized Home Improvement Projects
The grant money has been made available for strengthening improvements to your home.
You can use it for roofs and structures.
- This includes reinforcing roof-to-wall connections.
- Installing secondary water resistance for the roof.
- Upgrade roof coverings and improve the strength of roof deck attachments.
In addition, you can also use the grant to improve openings. That includes exterior door upgrades, garage door upgrades, and window upgrades.
What Happens After I Receive My Inspection?
Once your home is inspected, a report will be uploaded to the system. Once that inspection is reviewed and processed, you will receive an email notification that allows you to submit your grant application. It may take up to three months before hearing back from My Safe Florida Home.
Florida homeowners are eligible for a matching grant to help protect their homes. The Legislature has authorized DFS to provide a matching grant to eligible homeowners up to $10,000 for the actual cost of qualifying home hurricane mitigation projects. The program will provide $2 in grant funds for every $1 the homeowner provides. To receive the maximum grant amount, homeowners must provide $5,000 of their own funds toward the project.
The report you receive back will have a detailed description of the strengths and weaknesses of your home. The report is a guide on how to upgrade your house. If you qualify for the grant and receive the funds, those funds can only be used for repairs indicated in the inspection report.
The criteria for the grant include the homestead exemption. Your home must be insured for Five Hundred Thousand Dollars (500K) or less and be in a wind zone county. Most homes that qualify have been built before the building codes 2008.
Your home is a big investment, and homeowners usually update kitchens or bathrooms, but with My Safe Florida Home, it makes sense to update and help protect your investment. It will keep your family and valuables more safe. The program is also designed to help you save money on homeowner’s insurance. You could save between 20-50% off your policy. Plus, there’s added resale value for when you decide to move.
