Since Hurricane Irma hit Naples, Florida, we have been working round the clock to assist our community in times of need. We put the highest level of care and compassion in every job we do. However, our commitment to the Naples community doesn’t end with the roofing services we offer. Every holiday season, Kelly Roofing gives away a free roof to a local family in need. This holiday season, Gloria and her family were chosen because of her financial struggles after her husband abandoned her 12 years ago, leaving her with three mouths to feed.
Gloria has been at the same company as a seamstress for the past 13 years and currently makes $10.00/hr. Her son has mild autism and works at Lowes in the garden department. Since his bike was stolen, Gloria has been dropping him at work every single day.
Making Ends Meet At All Costs!
To provide for her family, Gloria engages in multiple activities to improve her income and cut down the costs of living. She started a garden in her back yard with several herbs, spices, and fruits to grow so she does not have to buy them at the grocery store. She also collects scrap metal around the neighborhood to recycle and make extra cash. She even asked to keep her old satellite dish after it is removed so she can recycle the metal. Overall, Gloria is a hardworking and dedicated single mother – we may have to anchor her to the ground so she doesn’t get on the roof to help the crews! More importantly, Gloria believes deeply in God and seeks His guidance in her in life.
A Leaking Roof
Other than Gloria’s financial troubles, there is a hole in her bedroom ceiling due to a consistent roof leak. Unfortunately, her insurance company declined her claim stating the roof only required repair and her deductible was more than the cost of repair. With several attempts to repair the roof on her own, nothing seemed to work. When we met her, she had a tarp over the hole to prevent water from entering her bedroom.
Giving Back to the Community
Kelly Roofing has partnered with Habitat for Humanity, ABC Supply, and Owens Corning to provide a new roof for Gloria’s family. We are using shingles donated from Owens Corning and several other customers who share the same compassion. Additional donations came from positive surveys received on Google and Facebook through our Free Roofs Project. We are happy to say Gloria now has a new roof over her head, and it will last her for years. We were also able to procure a bike for her son!
